How to Join

Are you interested in becoming a Civil Air Patrol cadet?
This is the process.

(1) Visit your local squadron

Cadet life is an experience, so prospective cadets must visit their local squadron in person three times before deciding to join.  We currently meet at the Richwood Presbyterian Church building, 1070 Richwood Rd, Walton, KY 41094, every Monday from 18:30 to 21:00

(2) Request a meeting with your squadron commander

After the third visit to your local squadron, the prospective cadet and their parent(s) must meet with the squadron commander before membership to the Civil Air Patrol can proceed.  This meeting ensures that both the prospective cadet and their parent(s) fully understand the commitment that the prospective cadet is undertaking and exactly what will be expected of them.

The meeting with your squadron commander can be requested via E-mail

Valid proof of the prospective cadet’s identity must be provided to the squadron commander during your meeting.  The following are acceptable:

  • U.S. Passport
  • Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
  • Certified copy of Birth Certificate
  • Social Security Card
  • Drivers License or State Issued ID
  • Other I-9 approved documentation

(3) Apply for membership online

After the meeting with the local squadron commander, prospective cadets may apply online membership, and local squadron leadership may approve the application.

To apply for cadet membership, visit the Online Cadet Membership Application page.  Youth will need a parent or guardian as they complete the online form and pay via credit card.  To apply for cadet membership online, our Wing is KY, and our Unit is 050.

Review all information before clicking the “Submit Information” button.  Incomplete applications can not be processed.

Returning/Lapsed Cadets:  Please visit your squadron and reapply for membership using the hard copy CAPF 15.  Unfortunately, we cannot reinstate lapsed cadets via this online process.

(4) Look for a welcome e-mail

Check your e-mail for a note confirming your membership before the next meeting.  If your squadron denies your membership application, you’ll receive word via e-mail, and your credit card will be refunded.

(5) Check out the Help for New Cadets page for your next steps as a new CAP cadet.
